Mindfulness- Being Alive in Life

Theory

Mindfulness is a mental state achieved by focusing one’s awareness on the
present moment. Mindfulness is simply being aware of what is happening as
happening. It’s the awareness that arises through paying attention, on purpose, in
the present moment and non-judgmentally. Mindfulness is about silencing the
chatters of the mind and providing it a focus on the present.
Mindfulness is all about staying calm, centred and attentive to the present
moment. How can we enhance our mindfulness? How can we guard ourselves
and our mind from the distractions of this world? How can we give impeccable
focus on the tasks we do? How can we energise our mind?
Let us start our day with a prayer of gratitude, standing in the garden of our
house, beside a floret, breathing the fragrance of the purge morning and taking a
few deep breaths to freshen up our mind. Let us close our eyes for a few minutes
and dip our mind into the pool of meditation. Now, let us come out from the pool
with a pristine mind. Meditation is an excellent training for our mind, to reap in
concentration and to sharpen the focus of our mind. Mindfulness generates a
healthy mind sans fears, anxieties, stress and worries.

Story

A young boy once received a magnifying glass as a birthday gift. Fascinated, he
carried it everywhere. He used it to look at ants crawling on the ground, the veins
of a leaf, even the lines on his mother’s palm. Through the lens, everything
appeared clearer, sharper, and more alive.

One afternoon, while playing in the garden, he placed the magnifying glass under
the sun. To his surprise, the scattered rays gathered into a single beam. That little
beam burned a hole in the dry leaf before him. The boy was awestruck — the
same sunlight that warmed the earth every day suddenly had the power to ignite,
simply because it was focused.

Years later, the boy grew into a man. Life became noisy, filled with deadlines,
distractions, and constant rushing. One evening, exhausted, he remembered his

old magnifying glass. He realized his own mind had been like the scattered rays —
running in every direction, never truly touching anything deeply.

That night, he sat quietly and focused only on his breath. For the first time in
years, he felt a spark of peace. He understood: mindfulness is nothing but the
magnifying glass of life. It gathers the scattered rays of our thoughts and focuses
them on the present moment, where life truly burns bright.
