Planning and Preparations

Theory

Planning and Preparation works best for people who have goals. As said in an
earlier chapter, we can have goals in the different realms of our life, like financial,
health, professional, spiritual and developmental. In order to reach out to the
SMART goals we have set in these different realms, we need to have an action
plan. We should not only have an action plan but also make relevant and
meaningful preparation to execute the plan or road map to our goal or
destination.

Say for example, in order to achieve one’s career, not only does he or she have to
set a goal and plan his or her route map to one’s career, but also needs to have
plans and preparations for one’s education and the arrangement of finances to
support one’s higher education and coaching. Hence, the fuel for success would
definitely be the planning and preparations being made and the execution of the
same without fail.

What does planning and preparation bring in to our life?
1. Lets us see the big picture
2. Know our priorities
3. Brings in focus
4. Identify resources or essentials
5. Connect the dots
6. Utilize time effectively
7. Overcome uncertainty
8. Promotes growth.

Story

There once lived a young archer named Dev, who dreamed of winning the royal
archery championship — a contest that decided the kingdom’s most skilled
marksman.

Dev was talented — his arrows flew straight, his focus was sharp, and his spirit
fierce. But there was one thing he despised — planning.

“Why waste time on plans when skill speaks for itself?” he’d say.

Every morning, he would practice aimlessly — sometimes at trees, sometimes at
targets — never measuring distance, never studying wind or angles. His arrows
found their mark often enough to keep his confidence inflated.

When the day of the championship arrived, the grand field buzzed with
excitement. Flags fluttered in the wind, and archers from across the land lined up.
Dev took his position, proud and eager.

But as his turn came, the wind began to blow harder. Flags swayed, dust whirled,
and the air grew unpredictable. Dev shot his arrow — it curved away, missing the
target.
Again, and again — miss after miss.

Meanwhile, a calm figure stood at the far end — Aryan, an older archer who had
spent months studying the field. Every day, he had observed the direction of the
wind, measured the pull of his bow, adjusted his stance, and prepared for every
possible condition.

When his turn came, Aryan waited for the right moment. His breath slowed, his
eyes softened, and with one graceful release — the arrow sliced through the air
and struck the very center of the target.

The crowd erupted in applause. Dev watched in disbelief.

After the contest, Dev walked up to Aryan and asked, “How did you make it look
so effortless?”

Aryan smiled. “Because the effort was already spent — in preparation.”

He continued, “When you plan, you build trust with yourself. When you prepare,
you make peace with uncertainty. So when the wind blows, you don’t fight it —
you flow with it.”

That night, Dev sat alone, holding his bow. For the first time, he realized that
passion without preparation is like an arrow without direction — it might fly, but
it rarely finds its mark.

Success doesn’t come by accident — it arrives by arrangement. Planning sharpens
our vision; preparation strengthens our courage. When both meet, success
becomes inevitable. The best performers aren’t lucky — they are ready, because
luck only visits those who have built a home for it through planning, patience, and
practice.
