Our Destiny- Our Vision

Theory

What is the most important thing which we want to achieve in this life time?
Our answer to this question can guide us to our vision.
Once we have documented all our goal statements of different domains, it
becomes easy to write our vision statement. The long term, rather life time goal
which we consider as the most important amongst the goals we have set will
provide us enough spark about be the vision of our life. A vision statement is an
aspiration description of what we want to achieve or accomplish in long term. A
clear personal vision is often considered as an integration of our passion, abilities,
values, goals, expertise, culture and maturity. The vision of our life is our guiding
star. For reaping great success, we need to be a great follower of this star. It is
one of the most important keys to finding our path in life. Our vision is like we
taking the brush and painting our ideal future. The personal vision of ours makes
us think long term, makes us intrinsically motivated, and makes our life driven by
meaning.

Example of a vision statement:

To be the most referred and appreciated thoracic surgeon of my home town.

Story

Warren Buffett was already one of the richest men in the world when he sat
down one evening with a simple question that refused to leave him: “What will I
be remembered for?”

He had built empires, multiplied wealth beyond imagination, and earned the title
“Oracle of Omaha.” Yet, as he later admitted, the thought of dying rich but
insignificant haunted him. What use was all that money if it ended with him?

Buffett could have spent his life adding another zero to his fortune, buying
islands, or living in castles. But instead, he looked at his modest house in Omaha,
the same one he had lived in for decades, and realized something profound — his
destiny was not to own, but to give.

In 2006, Buffett shocked the world. He announced he would donate more than
99% of his wealth to charitable causes. His billions would flow into education,
healthcare, poverty alleviation, and humanitarian efforts. “I want my money to
have meaning beyond me,” he said softly.

People asked him why. His answer was disarmingly simple: “I’ve been lucky.
Society gave me opportunities. Now it’s my turn to return the favour.”
What made this vision powerful was not the size of his fortune, but the clarity of
his destiny. He chose to see wealth not as a personal possession but as a
responsibility.

Today, millions benefit from his giving. Hospitals rise, children study, lives are
saved — not because Buffett had money, but because he had a vision larger than
himself.

Buffett’s life whispers a lesson for us all: Destiny is not written in the numbers of
our bank account, but in the difference our vision makes to the world.
