Story
It is the story about an old geotechnical engineer who used to work for a German company. Several senior staffs had to attend a meeting with the client, and there were also government regulatory staffs. The head government regulatory, who attended the meeting was behaving awkwardly and was not approving the design. This geotechnical engineer guy, was pretty much quiet the whole meeting. Throughout the discussion, the government official was keeping on referring a research document and shooting down anything anybody else was suggesting.
When the meeting was about to end, the geotechnical engineer, asked the government official, if he could hand over the reference research document. The government guy responded yes and placed it on the table. The German company asked the government guy as to who has authored the paper? The government official utters the name of the official and the geotechnical engineer slides over his business card. It turned out that it was the geotechnical engineer’s own paper that the government guy was referring to defend his argument. The government official went bright red and apparently approved the design the same day.
