The core of our life should be centred on humanism. A human who seeks to promote human welfare is humanitarian. The sense and essence of a human being is to be a humanitarian. The humanitarian focus is on protecting human lives and raising the dignity of human beings through fights against discrimination, rushing with aids during disaster and standing tall and speaking when human rights are violated. We need to be a bit of social worker, philanthropist and a compassionate people spirited person. It is an expression of our humanity towards others, when they need the help most. The feeling which makes you think beyond yourself to the well being of others is a true compass orientation towards being a humanitarian. Humanism is an unconditional expression of love towards your fellow beings. The number of humanitarian activities done in a life time makes an individual a rich human being. When we feel that you have more than what you need at your disposal, then there is an opportunity for your serve. Remember, service to your fellow beings is your service to God.

Hence to become a humanitarian

1. Be an optimistic.
2. Have a bird’s eye view of the society
3. Exhibit tolerance.
4. Recognise and empathize with others.
5. Determine their needs, wants and aspirations.
6. Understand the need of the hour
7. Attempt to help
8. Develop the habit of working towards helping others.
9. Take responsibility for the welfare of others.

Story

Saroj Sood’s Indian Society for Sponsorship & Adoption (ISSA) helps lost, abandoned and orphaned children in Kolkata, India. For four decades, Sood has upheld this motto: “Adopting one child won’t change the world. But for that one child, the world will change.” One boy famously paid it forward: Sood took in a lost 5-year-old who was later adopted by Australians. Decades later, as depicted in the six-time Oscar nominated film Lion, the boy found his impoverished birth mother and financially supports her and ISSA.
